Italo Vardaro is a Portrait and Illustrative Photographer who has been working in the Riverland professionally since 1984.
Italo's love of the Riverland began as a little boy when he, along with his family would drive up from Adelaide for their holidays. Childhood memories of the sweet perfume from citrus trees left a lasting impression, along with the beautiful Murray River.
Situated in the central east of South Australia, Riverland towns feature a panoramic backdrop of limestone cliffs, with their layers of colour and texture following the twists and turns of the Murray as it rolls towards the ocean. Along the way, the waters spread out into wetlands, lakes and billabongs.
Italo's work is diverse, encompassing many communities and a broad range of industries, Italo's work has been featured in numerous publications, touring exhibitions and state wide art projects.
Whether it's the abundant harvests of citrus and stone fruits, the wines from world class vineyards, the uniqueness of the Mallee plains, or the majestic Murray River itself, everything about South Australia's Riverland is magical.
The water systems are the lifeblood of the region's horticulture, providing for the rows of orchards that produce almost all of South Australia's citrus fruits, stone fruits and almonds.
The Riverland is also Australia's largest wine producing region, growing in excess of 50 per cent of South Australian wine grapes.
Industry, tourism and a comprehensive service sector blend successfully to provide a wonderful place to live or visit. It's all waiting for you...
